Sherrie M. Boutwell

Ms. Boutwell frequently lectures on retirement plan matters for professional and industry trade associations, and for 6 years wrote a monthly column for the 401(k) Advisor, a pension industry newsletter. She is also the author of a book regarding voluntary compliance titled the Quick Reference Guide to Plan Corrections, published by Panel Publishers (2000-2003).

Sherrie M. Boutwell has specialized for twenty years in the areas of employee benefits law and ERISA, with an empha­sis on retirement and deferred compensation plans. She has provided legal counsel to employers, employees, plan fiduciaries (including plan trustees and administrators), financial institutions, government agencies and trade associations on a broad range of employee benefits matters.

 

Ms. Boutwell has represented employers before the Internal Reve­nue Service, the Department of Labor and the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation with respect to the legal requirements applicable to qualified pension and profit sharing plans.

 

Ms. Boutwell received her B.A. from the University of California, Irvine, magna cum laude, 1979. She obtained her J.D. in 1983 from the University of California, Los Angeles, where she was a member of the UCLA-Alaska Law Review.  Ms. Boutwell is a member of the California Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Western Pension & Benefits Conference, and serves on the board of the Orange County Chapter of the National Institute of Pension Administrators.  She has lectured on retirement plan issues for the American Law Institute/American Bar Association, the Western Pension and Benefits Conference, the American Society of Pension Actuaries, the California League of Savings Institutions and the National Institute of Pension Administrators.  She was formerly associated with the law firm of Morrison & Foerster.
