We are delighted to welcome Carla Miller-James as Senior Counsel at Boutwell Fay LLP!
Carla has extensive experience advising clients on employee benefits, executive compensation, retirement plans, health and welfare arrangements, and fiduciary governance. Her experience also includes advising on 457(b) and 457(f) arrangements, retirement and annuity products, and complex regulatory and tax compliance issues affecting plan sponsors.
Throughout her career, she has served as a trusted advisor to organizations navigating complex legal, regulatory, and business challenges, helping clients develop practical solutions while managing risk and supporting long-term strategic objectives.
Prior to joining Boutwell Fay, Carla spent more than a decade with TIAA, where she held several leadership positions, including Vice President, Head of Global Tax Advisory and Associate General Counsel. Earlier in her career, Carla practiced employee benefits and executive compensation law both in private practice and with the Internal Revenue Service and also served as a consultant in this space with a “Big 4” accounting firm. Her diverse background provides a unique perspective for clients facing increasingly complex employee benefits and compensation challenges.
Carla earned her LL.M. in Taxation and Certificate in Employee Benefits Law from Georgetown University Law Center, her J.D. from Emory University School of Law, and her B.S. in Human Resources and Organizational Management from The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.
