This morning, the United States Supreme Court overruled the longstanding precedent in Roe v. Wade, holding in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization that the federal constitution does not protect a woman’s right to an abortion. This decision will likely have far-reaching implications for women and, also, for employer-sponsored health plans - particularly for employers and plan participants in those states that have outlawed (or soon will outlaw) such medical procedures. Some employers have already announced new benefits in the form of reimbursement for travel to other states for such prohibited medical procedures. Boutwell Fay will be monitoring these developments, so stay tuned for more important information on this topic.
